Now.. I don’t know the weight of an LT4 engine..
What I DO know is that you should not grab a hold of it if the engine hoist fails...
A dislocated shoulder hurts.... Like quite a bit. (Not the first time it’s happened, but this time it REALLY hurts)
So, what stupid things have you done that got yourself hurt?
And could someone PLEASE tell me how the fuck I’m supposed to be able to sleep tonight :P

Was trying to repair the parking brake on my Dodge Ram. Had some rusty, stuck bolts. I’d already PB’lasted them without much luck. I got a wire brush and some CLR and went to town on them. As I’m doing this a bunch of CLR drips off the brush and right into my open mouth. Burned like hell.

Hmm, well there was the time I gave myself a bloody nose working on the Miata. I was putting on the roll bar, was in the process of torquing down the last bolt when the wrench slipped. Since I had my weight on the wrench my face became intimately acquainted with the quarter panel very shortly thereafter.....my wife was very sympathetic.....behind the laughter that is. Beyond that, it’s just been knicks, scrapes, and that sort of thing.

I’m quite sure that was not pleasant, the thing though.. I don’t know what CLR is.

Calcium, Lime, and Rust remover. It wasn’t much but it burned like crazy, even after lots of water.

I dropped my hood and busted my dash
Only thing injured was my self esteem because I cracked a perfectly good dash.
At least I didn’t bust the windshield too since I had already removed it.

Oh.. Yeah I bet it did.. a damn sight more dangerous than a dislocated shoulder as well.

Nothing I can think of is really standing out, other than the usual slate of tripping over chassis, cutting arms and legs on sharp objects, hitting myself with a wrench in the face due to it popping off, and numerous bangs of the head against a lift. I think I have been semi-stuck under one end of a Land Rover chassis, but those just require pushing right to get off. Not unreasonable.

It was a long time ago but there was the time I was trying to hang the door on a second gen Camaro, which are very large, by myself without much in the way of what you would call appropriate tools. I was trying to use some kind of pry tool and it kept slipping and hitting me in the face. I think I did that at least half a dozen times before I stopped and thought maybe I should try something different. I think it was the blood that was streaming out of my nose that made me stop.

I got a mouthful of oil one time when I was doing my own oil change. The drain plug wouldn’t come off so I put lots of muscle into and ended up opening it too fast to move my head out of the way. Other than that just the usual cuts and bruises from slipping wrenches and sharp metal parts.

While getting a bunch of tools together that a friend of mine wanted to barrow, I dropped a grinder with a cutting disc on my foot wearing sandals. Good thing it wasn’t on. 10 stitches and 6 hours in the emergency room later, I got a pretty good scar out of it. Note to self, wear shoes in a garage. Even if your just passing through.

Forgot to disconnect the battery in my Datsun when I was fooling with the starter one day. Touched the starter with a socket and gave myself a HELL of a gnarly shock. It hurt and I was done wrenching for the day simply out of fear haha
Was cleaning the oil off the engine in my Baja Bug prepping it for sale one day with a copious amount of brake cleaner. Lost my work glasses that day but decided to keep on keeping on. Got so much brake cleaner in my eyes when it deflected off one of the cooling fins that my eyes were red as the devil’s dick. Couldn’t see clearly for a good ten minutes then my family accused me of being high for three days straight due to red eyes.
Also rolled over my foot in the Baja Bug one day trying to bump start it after the battery went dead when I left the heater on. Luckily the car weighed nothing. Just a sore foot for a day and it was over. I’m sure there are many other times I’ve been injured but I can’t recall them off the top of my head. Probably due to some heavy car part falling on my head at some point haha

I was installing new struts on my Z and the coil spring compressor slipped while my fingers were between the bolts and spring. My right hand became trapped between the coompressor rod and the coil spring. Thus I sat on the ground until a guy came ridding by on his bike. I shouted for help and he pulled the spring to the other side so I could get my hand out. It could have been really bad, like losing fingers bad....

Ouch.. yeah.. that could’ve been REALLY bad.
Turns out the damage to my shoulder was worse than I thought though.. I thought it was just dislocated, so I popped it back in place, or so I though.. I’ve been in pain since it happened, went to see the doctor today, and it turns out I may have some nerve damage.

I’ve dislocated mine more often than I can remember.. so it does not take much for it to pop out, but now I have reduced feeling on the outside of my upper arm.. Ahh well, the doctors will figure it out :)
